Computer freezes randomly

Hey!

I have a big problem, my computer's been freezing for a few months...If I play a PC game like Sims2, the computer will completely freeze. If I shop on Ebay for over an hour, it will completely freeze. What's weird is that after it froze, I have to shut it down and wait about 30 minutes to an hour before starting it up again, otherwise it will just keep freezing on startup...It also says "Start windows normally"...

I thought it was because I have tons of Spyware and Viruses, so I downloaded "A-Squared free" to scan my computer. Every single time I do a scan, it finds a bunch of Spyware like Trace files, "Ad Savenow" and that stupid 180solutions crap...But it doesn't give me time to remove anything because it freezes while scanning...So now I don't know how to get rid of all the crap that is in my computer.

I have Windows xp, 512mb of ram...and lots of space on my hard drive...I don't know what else it could be. Please help me! I want to play my games!

That's a heat problem. Something is getting too hot and causing the computer to lock. When it cools off it allows it to run normally again. You can always start by seeing what the CPU temps are. If you have an AMD, see if your northbridge fan is working. See if the fan on your PSU is working. Blow the dust out with compressed air. See if the inside of your case is covered in dust. See if your VGA fan is working. If you have cables running all over the place tuck them in somewhere.

A couple of places to start anyways.

try using speedfan. this will allow you to speed up the fans when it gets really hot. now if your heatsink is not placed properly then your gonna burn out your fans and then have to replace them so make sure you didnt bump your heatsink off when you cleaned it out. speedfan tells you temperatures from your cpu cores and mobos and throttles the fans you can get it free at www.almico.com/speedfan.php this could help just make sure not to go too crazy with it. i would also consider runnin crap cleaner. this will clean up your computer and fix the registry and you can get that program for free at www.ccleaner.com you might have a prolbem with the registry.
