computer freezes regularly

Hello,

My computer has been freezing up a lot over the last few months. My hard drive light stays on and the entire thing freezes up. The only way i can get out of it is by manually shutting down the computer. When i try to boot up, it often gets a Disk Read error and wont get to the windows startup page. The only way i can get past this is if i unplug the computer power and unplug my hard drive from the motherboard. i cannot get past the disk read error unless i do these steps. In the case where disk read error does not show up after a manual power down, i get an error that says that the windows operating system needs to be repaired. i solve this problem the same way i solve the disk read error problem. to top things off, i often get a blue screen error.

i've completely reinstalled windows and started with a clean operating system so its definitely not an issue with some program i'm using. i noticed that this started to happen after i started overclocking my cpu and my video card. but now i have everything back to my default settings and it seems to happen less, but it still does happen. i'd really appreciate any suggestions.

thanks.

Do you have a another hard drive to switch it out? Sounds like your possibly having a failing HDD.

Another thought is memory....go here and download this and burn to a disc.
http://www.memtest.org/
It will test your memory...run it for 6-8 hours if you can (it will boot up after your post loads)

If you can boot the PC up for 5-6 minutes download a program called "HDTune Pro" (free trial)http://www.hdtune.com/
Once installed go to "health" and it will highlight/warn if your HDD is the issue. Give us the results.

Also unless you got really stupid with the overclocks (like you set voltage to 1.6v off the bat and your processor max is 1.5v) you shouldn't have done damage to anything. It honestly sounds like your hard drive is failing to me though.
