Computer Freezes

HELP_ME

whenever i play CSS my screen freezes. i cant do anything, it freezes in one spot and constantly loops the sounds that was last played. the only thing i can do is hit the windows key (which brings up start menu) then hit the up arrow (bringing me to "turn off computer") then hit enter and hit left (Stand-by) i have memorized this key pattern cause it happens so much. then when i turn the computer on again from stand-by counterstrike is not responding so i end task then everything goes back to normal. PLEASE help. it is so annoying especially when i am trying to run a server and everyone gets disconnected.

Are you still running XP or did you move to Vista? Some of the latest Stem updates have been seeing some problems here with the other Source engine games like Half Life, HL2, and Episode One. The locks initially were seen in Vista due to Creative beta drviers still in use until march 7. Then lockups were starting in XP as well following some updates on the Steam Source engine lately.

Other then that sound drivers can be a main source of problems seen in game crashes especially with looping sounds. If you see them happen only when reaching certain points in a few game maps that can easily be a toss up between that or one of the recent updates.

this could be overheating, a driver issiue or an issiue with the game.

first check the temp of ur graphics card. if its above
70.c then u may have to add some cooling. repeat this precedure for the cpu.

if the temps are below 70.c or even 60.c to be safe, then update ur video drivers to the latest revision and see if any new updates or patches are available for the game.

if the temps are ok, latest drivers/updates are installed and the problem persists, re install the game following the installation notes carefully.

finaly, if none of the above work, promptly purchase a large hammer, or similar blunt instrument and strike pc repeatedly until anger resides.

I just had a major problem with freezes and it ended up being the soundcard. So if you have one, remove it and use your motherboards audio and see if that is the culprit. I had a soundblaster x-fi extreme audio

o wait a second i noticed that i happens mainly on my own server. i run a small dedicated server just for me and a few people and whenever i join my own server it happens everytime. it also happens in other servers just not nearly as often.

Before logging on again try taking a good look in the msconfig utility to see what you don't need loading along with Windows. Also look over what protections you have currently running like antivirus, antiadware/spyware, and any firewall activity. These especially antivirus and firewall programs are well known for casuing problems just with single player versions of games then add a server to that. Any firewalls active?

ok now it doesnt freeze but just shuts down, then i get a hl2.exe encountered a problem message, still only happens on my server. and just before it happens i see this message in console:

Update delta not found.
Netchannel: failed processing message svc_PacketEntities.

then after a bit it says something about host error. and it closes.

Steam own support pages offer a Steam connection test as long as you can log into your account. This and network connectivity problems are outlined at http://support.steampowered.com/cgi-bin/steampowered.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=11

You are not alone with the Netchannel: failed processing message svc_PacketEntities error for CC:S. But the link discussing the same or similar problems would need some translation. http://forum.mods.de/bb/thread.php?TID=159011   :P

ya i know about the translation lol it seems like everything with posts about that stuff was not in english.

The best way is through Steam's own support site since you saw the seach results for anyone seeing the exact same error unfortunately not in English. Try the connection test and if needed contact Steam's support staff with a description of your setup there. They will probably walk you through things once you get a reply.
