Computer has no internet access except for IE

Hi,

I have a desktop computer which will only have internet access through Internet Explorer. Google Chrome wont connect, neither will malwarebytes, spywarehunter. spybot search and destroy does though.

Ive tried updated versions of programs but wont go through.
tried turning off startup programs to see if something is conflicting but didnt help.

Its running windows XP Media center addition.


Any help or things to try would be brilliant

Try tweaking the settings.

Open IE and on the menu: Tools -> Internet Options. Hit the Connections tab, then hit the LAN Settings button and UNCHECK "Use a proxy server for your LAN", then OK both windows. Refresh the browser and both Chrome & IE should work
 
I have tried the settings in there.....the proxy server hasnt been checked at anypoint.

Internet explorer connects but the chrom or other programs dont. Just found out outlook express does connect as well if thats any clue.

Safe mode with networking gives the same result as well.
 
ran what i can, AVG 8.5, Malware 1.46, spybot search and destroy, superantispyware and spyhunter.

Trouble is none of um can update to get latest definitions to do an up to date scan :(
 
Download and Run ComboFix
If you already have Combofix, please delete this copy and download it again as it's being updated regularly.
Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

Combofix should never take more that 20 minutes including the reboot if malware is detected.


In your next reply please post:
  • The ComboFix log
  • A fresh HiJackThis log
  • An update on how your computer is running

Download the HijackThis installer from here.
Run the installer and choose Install, indicating that you accept the licence agreement. The installer will place a shortcut on your desktop and launch HijackThis.

Click Do a system scan and save a logfile

Most of what HijackThis lists will be harmless or even essential, don't fix anything yet.

Post the logfile that HijackThis produces along with the combofix log.

Ohio....Ive had problem recently on new builds.....found the IE7 install from updates to be corrupted (or some update to IE7 is) Update it to IE8 through the automatic updates and should have u up and running.
 
Have run those through....tried connection issues through programs after ComboFix had done its thing and all is updating and working and now accessing the internet which is great.

Ive tried to post the logs but they say its too big.....how do i get around that problem?
It is working but if possible to post logs then would be cool to confirm what the problem was. there was a fair bit that combofix took out so guessing it was some of that bumph in there.

You can post the log in multiple posts, just remember where you left off to make sure everything in the log is posted.
