Computer having problems

Hi, I recently bought a computer components and a friend put it together.
The components were.

Motherboard: G-B EX58-UD3R
Processor: i7 920 @2.67 GHZ
Ram: Patriot 6gb (3x2)
Graphics: Nvidia 9400gt 512 mb
HDD: 500gb + 500gb
OS: Windows vista ultimate (64 bit)
case: cheap case with built in power supply

Firstly the computer would not post at all but then my friend deduced it was the processor (he took everything out 1 by 1). He noticed there was a bent pin and he managed to fix it and then the computer worked fine.

Basically I had no problems originally but then I pushed it for the first time by trying to render about 10 seconds worth of animation in 3ds max. It renders very fast and uses all 8 cores but after about 5-6 frames the computer would start beeping. The beeps are pretty inconsistent but are usally long held beeps but sometimes on-off ones. When I change the affinity to 4 or less processors (instead of 5, 6, 7 or 8) I don't seem to have any problems.
Other than that I had no troubles.
Now however, ocassionaly the computer will not post when i turn it on but if I then turn it off it will always work on the second time.

Also, I just noticed that in dxdiag it says I have 3310mb of of display memory. Could this be causing a problem?

What i really want is to be able to render animation using all 8 cores without a problem (which is the reason why I bought the computer).

I think that the problem that you are experiencing would be because of the bent pin in the processor. It would be better if you get it checked once again. In general cases if there is any problem in the processor the computer would not start up, which is not the case here so I guess there would not be any problem with this. Now, coming back to your problem just try changing the memory, I guess this should work for you.
 
Hi, thanks for your reply.

I do not think it is the ram because when I render from 3ds max it does not use up much ram, it seems to be only hungry on processor power.
I'm starting to think I may have a heating problem with the processor.
I will anyway try your suggestion and swap the ram to see if it helps.
 
i agree with checking the processor once more and maybe getting a better cooler. most computers start beeping as a heat alarm. or an overload of some sort. but a processor like that i would think shouldn't have a problem. especially if its pretty new.
