Hello all. My computer gives me an odd status message when it boots. I am running windows vista. The message says that windows host has stopped working. This error message continues to pop up. A few minutes after the computer boots, it crashes and I get a bsod. What does all this mean?

Before reformatting, do a repair installation. Put in your windows disk and tell it to do a repair.

Just be aware that sometimes it will remove things from the registry causing some of your aftermarket programs not to work, meaning you will have to reinstall some of your programs.

It just sounds to me like something in your windows install has become corrupted. A repair just might fix it.

I fixed the problem using a restore. The restore was supposed to backup my personal files, but I can not find them. Are they gone, or hidden away somewhere?
