Had a laptop go out on me... Looking at buying a desktop... Would people in the know please look at the following 2 computers and answer the following questions:

1. What are the pros/cons of each?
2. Are they good for the money?
3. Is it worth the extra money for the 2nd computer?
4. Are there other computers out there in the same price range that are better?

Thanks in advance!

Computer 1

Computer2

you can save money and get a better system if you build yourself. is that something you'd be interested in?

Not really. I'm not that great with computers to start with... and I need a computer within a couple days for graduate class. So it would be more convenient to buy a package deal this time around.

Ok, the 2nd computer is very well worth the money. It gives much better video capabilities, and has a potentially, faster processor with an additional 2 cores. Also has a 64% larger hard drive. "Computer 2" would be a much better computer. btw: Gateway rocks. :D

will the 2 additional cores make that much of a difference?

I should also say that I basically use the computer for surfing the net, doing school work, emailing, etc. I don't play games on it. I may watch an occasional movie or video clips, but that's about it. So I don't know if the graphics card is that big of a deal either.

well, with that knowledge, "Computer 1" would be perfectly fine. The integrated graphics should easily be capable of handling 1080p video. If you don't plan on doing anything more strenuous in the future, other than what you have listed, Computer 1 would be fine.

But really, for only $125 more, the other build would give you better value, and would be a little more future proof. So i still stand by my opinion (get computer 2), however Computer 1 would still do what you need it to do.

Thanks for the help.

Any other opinions?

Anyone seen better package deals out there? This seems to be the best I've found in this price range... (with my limited knowledge!)
