Its Amd Radeon HD 5450( a year ago it was the top model)

Yeah that was never a top model. It's the lowest end card you can get.

In all honesty, unless you buy a card that has at least 1x6 pin PCIe connector, then it is not powerful at all.

You can never trust the "store guy". You need to do your own research. As others have said, that was a very low end card when it came out.

I have a R9 280X and it runs almost every game higher that 50 FPS maxed out. Yes, DX11 performance is poor, but it's still $120 less than a comparable GTX card.

DX 9 and 10 performance is much better, but its a little outdated now. The new 300 series does better I believe..
