My setup:

Processor: Intel Core i5-760 Lynnfield 2.8GHz LGA 1156 95W Quad-Core

Graphics Card: EVGA 01G-P3-1372-TR GeForce GTX 460 (Fermi) Superclocked 1GB 256-bit

6 gigs of RAM

I was able to run Skyrim on ultra settings without a hitch. Now when I play even league of legends my fps drops down to 10 sometimes. I have been playing for a year and a half and this has never ever happened except for within the past month or so. Even Borderlands 2 when I load my character into the game lags non stop for almost a minute. My friend has an older Radeon card that runs it on ultra without a hitch. Any suggestions on what the problem could be?

I have no defragged in a while. I am going to try that.

I have defragged and that did not help. I updated my graphics drivers about a week ago so that can't be it. Are there any other drivers for a different component that can be updated?

Maybe you have installed some new programs that starts on windows boot, and eats up some memory, space, and CPU. I recommend you to use Iobit advanced systemcare free and turn on its turbo boost before playing your game. It works for me to play 3D games smoothly even with only a 512mb of ram.

Newest doesn't mean best. try rolling back your driver and seeing if your frame-rates are better. I suspect graphics driver, had drives that liked specific cards better at a point then after there was no point upgrading.
