Well, I'm going to start this off say that I am highly advanced with computers and technology from hardware to software, so that means that i'm really stumped on this one.
I have a Dell (Vomits) XPS 400 - Windows 7 x32 - 3.2 GHZ Pentium D - 2 GIGS of RAM (Upgrading to 4 in a couple of days) - A GTS 250 Overclocked - And a 320 GB, 7200 RPM SATA HDD - And 2 monitors.
I have no problems playing games like Fallout: New Vegas on max settings with no lag what so ever. The computer can also handle movie editing 1080p content with sony vegas.
But now to the point. Within the past 2 days or so, it has become outrageously slow. But its not the normal type of slow, if you know what I mean. For example: When web browsing playing games or running other applications, the CPU and RAM usage stay below 25% (Except for games) But the application its self is slow. Its takes google Chrome 2 seconds to open but takes 45 seconds to load this simple text based website! Its the same with FireFox too! It also take a large amount of time deleting and writing. Today I had a 100MB installer that I was trying to delete, it sat there for 20 minutes just "Discovering" the freakin file! This all leads me to believe that my hardrive is dieing... but one more thing that doesn't make sence is the fact that it still takes under 20 seconds to boot.
I have scanned with Kaspersky IS 2011 and the latest version of Malware Bytes and found nothing. Im thinking of just reinstalling windows 7..
WHAT DO YOU THINK IS WRONG?
