My P4 3.60GHz sony vaio computer has begun to recently crash on me. One second im surfing the web and BAM! it automatically restarts. This is the fourth time this has happened and im afraid it'll keep on happening. I purchaced the OS disks from SONY a while ago but im not sure if I should reinstall the OS from scratch again (deleate all of the partitions), is there anything else I can do?

I did numerous of spyware scans and virus scans but no real help.

PLEASE HELP!!

this may not be a software problem. maybe a hardware problem if its a desktop open it up 2 check if theres much dust or ne thing(not quite sure how u clean laptops thou but u can try cleaning it my ownly sagestion is stick a hi powered vacumcleaner to the vent(someone correct me if thats not a good idea)(it sounds good thou)) check on fans ur heatsink for ur cpu make sure ur fan on ur heat sinks still working(ur computer will reboot if it over heats for safety) and another thing is make sure ur power plugs are pluged in properly cause mine restarted but i relised it was wen i bumpted lol hope that helps

It likely to be a hardware issue. The first thing I would do is clean out the dust. Also use speedfan to find out the cpu temperature, voltage readings and hard drive S.M.A.R.T readings. Then is this dose not solve the problem try running memtest to see if it finds any issues with the ram. Please post any readings so we can help you better.

Yep that sounds about right, I suffered for ages with all the symptoms of RAM failure, until I did a check. I used Microsoft’s Memory Checker software, but I have heard memtest is just as good if not better.

Did you install any new hardware lately? You might want to go online and download the latest device drivers for your hardware. Next time you see the blue screen there should be an error code near the bottom it would say something like this, STOP: 0x70000000. Write it down and maybe it will lead use to the device driver causing the problem

Yes, I recently upgraded my video card to the nVidia 7600GT... perhaps thats the problem. I'll go ahead and check for updates.
