Computer keeps freezing up

Hey guys.

So, after a few months, my computer has started to freeze up quite randomly. At least I can't see any pattern on what causes it to behave like this. There is no blue-screen, no errors, and I can't find anything in the system logs..

I've started to worry a bit that it might be that is a hardware malfunction, but I have never seen anything like this... so I don't really know where to start here.

My computer specs are:
Windows 7 Pro SP1
Cooler Master G750M, 750W PSU
ASUS Crosshair V Formula-Z, Socket-AM3+
AMD FX-9590
16GB RAM from Crucial (don't remember the specs on those atm)
MSI Radeon R9 290X Gaming 4GB GDDR5
Cooler Master V8 GTS CPU Cooler
Kingston SSDNow V300 120GB 2.5" OEM
Seagate Barracuda 3TB

NZXT Sentry 3 Fan Control 5,25" Bay + 3 fans

Also, one weird thing about the freeze. I have an external sound card (Line6 POD Studio), and that dB bar also freezes when the computer freezes...

Any help what so ever, would be highly appreciated!

I ran the sfc scannow.

"Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them. Details are included in the CBS.log"

... I have no idea what to make of this log file. I do see a lot of "Failed to internally open package. [HRESULT = 0x800f0805 - CBS_E_INVALID_PACKAGE]", though.

Sounds like some R/W problems from the SSD. If you get a dump of the SMART table do you see any CRC or write errors?

What version of the V300 is that? For some of the units Kingston did the old 'switcharoo' and put poorly performing asynchronous NAND that wasn't present in the review units.

I would start by backing up your data and doing a fresh install of windows and see what happens.

Hmh. It does seem like it's the HDD though. Ran the Crystal Disk Info, and it says my SSD is fine, but my HDD had a lot of registry errors...

Not sure what version of the V300.. I'll check tomorrow. And I'll also do a clean install and see if that helps, for sure.

I'll keep you posted, guys!

Then it sounds like a problem with the hard drive. Did you install any additional programs after the reinstall? This could be software related.

Do you have any overclocks ? Remove those if you do. A 750W PSU is a little low for 290X and 9590. The TDP on the CPU and GPU are over 500W alone. I would also check the temperatures of your CPU.

I just realized that I only have a 750W PSU... Removed the overclocks, and now it seems a lot more stable! Lol... that was bad x) Oh well. Thank you for your help, guys! It seems stable for now, but if it comes back, I'll update the thread!

Thnx again!
Mr. Moseng

Forgot to tell you guys... it was the overclocks. Slightly unstable processor when overclocked with that PSU! Runs smoothly now!

Thank you for your help, guys :)

Glad you got it sorted out. Usually the first step in any instability is to run everything at default speeds :)
