Hi, this is my first post as I seek help!

I have a computer, which after switching on, displays a black screen (bit of spec writing) and then jumps over to another screen displaying press Fsomething for this, Fsomething for that and then restarts!

I have I cannot access the Fsomethings as the keyboard wont work. I have bought a new keyboard and tested on another pc and It works.

I've tried inserting boot disks but nothing will get me passed this screen.

Any help is much appreciated, regards,

Luke

Use a ps/2 keyboard(the ones with purple connectors) as this is checked on post but usb keyboard cannot work untill the usb drivers are loaded on windows start up

sweet, getting somewhere... now im trying to install win 7 as nothing is working. problem being when i try to get it to boot from cd i get

..
...
Boot from CD :

NVIDIA Boot Agent 201.0462
Copywrite (c) 2001-2004 NVIDIA Corporation
Copywrite (c) 1997-2000 Intel Corporation
PXE-E61 : Media Test Failure, Check Cable

Anyone know what this means??

You need to go into the bios and disable network boot. However if the system restarts then you have an issue. Was this system recently built? Sounds like there could be a short somewhere.

No not recently built, I need my window screen replacing in my car and so I went to see man who knew a man who could do it on the cheap if I could fix his pc. So at the min im stripping off all the extra hardware and starting from there. I will check the Bios, cheers

Look in the bios to see if the sata controller is set to ahci/raid instead of IDE, native IDE or compatibility mode. You should set it to IDE if available.

::::Intergrated Peripherals::::

i have

IDE/SATA RAID function - enabled
IDE Primary Master - enabled
Serial-ATA 1 - enabled
SATA 1 Primary RAID enabeld

this correct?

see the hard drive is being reconised as im partitioning the drive on the fresh install. It's just every time I click next on each partition I get:
Windows cannot be installed to this disk. This computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure that the disks controller is enabled in the bios menu...

arghh

Right, I've removed all IDE components and now have 2 SATA components, hard drive and DVD drive with working leads and yet im still getting no where... is there a chance there is a problem with either my hard drive or mother board?

Change iDE/sata raid function to disabled and SATA 1 primary raid to disabled. You should be set now.
