Computer Lagging?

I have a Dell Dimensions 2400. When I first bought the computer, it was pretty slow, so I sped it up with some ram. Its been pretty fast ever scine then, but now its starting to lag again. Ive done plenty of spyware and virus scans, but didnt find anything. Whats goin on?

Have you cleaned your temporary files and memory dumps? If not, then I recommend that you use CCleaner.

Download CCleaner from http://www.ccleaner.com

This will speed up your computer by removing unneccesary temporary files.

Defragmenting regularly will also help.

I tried that too. i even defreaged my hd, but nothing seems to be working

You might be loading too many applications into the memory.
I cannot pin point the source of the problem.

have you looked in "Msconfig" to see what crap is starting up with windows because you might have alot of unnecessary stuff which is using up free ram.

how much ram do you have?

Formatting will always help, but if you're looking for a less extreme solution I'd suggest reading through http://users.telenet.be/bluepatchy/miekiemoes/slowcomputer.html, in particular the section about using a program like StartUpLite to stop unnecessary programs from loading at startup.
