Computer lags alot. what could be the cause?

The PC on my signature is the PC that my brother is playing Age of Empire III on.

The game is on the lowest settings and still it lags during game, and lags even worth when game is ruining for a little bit.

What could be the cause?

Check list:

CPU - I think it should be fine. can that CPU play the game on high or highest settings?
RAM - 1GB dual channel. Is it enough for playing the game on high or hightest setting?
Video card - Is that video card to week to play the AOE III on low setting?

Anything else?

It's probably a simple maintenance problem like a bloated registry. You don't need a high end video card for that game. Check out http://support.microsoft.com/kb/907884 and see if your hardware matches. It sounds like you have a system that is more than adequate so, as I said its probably just something simple

Yeah, it is low end, but do you realize the game that is being played? A little 2D action never killed a 6200

AoEIII actually looks like a fairly demanding game.

a 6800GT only runs it at 35 FPS @ 1024x768 no AA no AF.
So it's probably the video card.

He said when he was running on it with everything low, i know for a fact it's not the gpu because my dad has played that on our old PC. That has 512mb ram, Intel Pentium 4 @ 2ghz 64mb of on board graphics.
