greetings,
not sure where to post this so, i'll try here. running win xp pro sp1 and 2...700+ ram, 80gb hd @ 7200rpm, i.e.....

i have been experiencing this for about 2 weeks now and cannot figure out why my computer keeps locking up!....i have no viruses or trojans and have run 4 different programs to that effect....anyone have any idea as to how i can narrow down my search as to what the culprit is?

Can you please be more specific on what is happening when it locks up so we might be able to come across the best solution for you.

***thanks for the reply (ies)....sometimes just surfing around or just "parked" on my browser search page and doing nothing, and other times on yahoo i.m. or using e-mail.....

.....i have checked for auto scheduled updates for various programs such as virus programs and have shut them down via ctrl>alt>delete to be sure that that was not a culprit....

....i have also attempted to recently made a hard drive backup with a program to dvd rw discs and that too would lock up......i am unsure if video board problem or ram problem or what.....

OK, No worries.

Not sure on those exactly.

oh damn!...i should have been more specific!...my mouse does not move at all and keyboard becomes inoperable....also, if screen goes blank as set up in "power settings" in control panel after 10-15 minutes, i still have a blank screen after "pounding on the keyboard or clicking the mouse which will usually bring back my desktop............TOTAL LOCK-UP....i have to hit reset and reboot the computer.

Well pounding on your key board is one reason:D Have you updated all your drivers in awhile or did a disk clean up and defraged?
