Computer missing files/bugged

So last night my computer randomly started popping up with "MS Antvirus 2009" telling me I have a virus. It gave me a choice to "stay unprotected" or "activate now" and so I clicked stay unprotected but like 100 more of the same window would pop up.

I ran adaware SE Personal, Adaware 2008, AVG Antispyware and got rid of some stuff. But my computer now will shut down randomly to "prevent data loss/corruption" or something like that. It also does not show minimized windows anymore, they become lost.

Also, when I try to go to the microsoft windows update page it automatically redirects me to a spam site. It seems like any program that tries to update itself, including adaware 2008 fails.

Is there anything I can do? I lost my xp professional disc/product key in the move.

Questions:
1. would getting a new hard drive and new copy of windows xp solve this problem?
2. is there a cheaper solution? would some how finding a way to update windows help? I don't have 80 bucks for a new hard drive, and 130 for a copy of xp.
3. Is there a program i can run that is better than adaware 2008?

This happened a couple of months ago on our main computer. MS antivirus 2009 is malware but you shouldn't have to completely reinstall Windows or swap hard drives to remove it.
Follow this guide removal instructions.
But after I followed the guide, I also cleaned out my temporary internet files and ran an anti-virus/anti-spyware just to make sure.
MS antivirus 2009 is a tricky little bug to remove but it was gone after I did all this.

ummm, do not buy a new comp, even if it was unstopable u could do a system restore, i no the above post will work but here, this is much easier all u have to do is a quick scan.:D

wow, after i actually read ur whole post, u shod NOT buy anything Malwarebytes always works, really do not buy a new hard drive

Problem.
My computer won't even open the .exe file to run the malware bytes program. NOT EVEN IN SAFE MODE.

The damn virus makes the comp open an IE explorer page that has an error.

I also cannot run safe mode for some god forsaken reason. It won't open either. I got it to open originally and clicked on a restore point but the next button wouldn't work.

I also got this error today at start up

SPOOLSV.exe application error
instruction at 0x00a70664 referenced memory at 0x00a70664 could not be written.

ANd I wouldn't buy a new comp I was going to buy a new hard drive and copy of XP. But xp is so damn expensive.

so apparently this stupid thing knows when I am trying to fix it. Whenever I click a program or website that might help me get rid of it, it brings me to an error web page.

I also can no longer drag items. System restore won't open. I looked for those things the website claimed would be in the registry. They weren't.

Download combofix here, follow the instructions. You will need to dowload the file from another computer and transfer it via usb flashdrive. Please post the log that it displays afterwards. After that, you should be able to run malwarebytes. On your next reply please post logs from combofix, malwarebytes, and hijackthis.

Follow information for getting malwarebytes and hijackthis here.

what if the malware is not letting me install any programs? It thinks for a while, then a browser pops up with a spam add. I cannot install ANY of this crap.

Is it possible to install the combofix directly onto my USB drive and run it from there? I think I can still run programs like adaware se so that SHOULD work ?

Combofix is not really a program you install. You can run it directly from the usb drive if you want, but its better off if you transfer the file to your desktop and run it from there. If you still can't run it, then what you need to do is take the hard drive out and slave it to another system and scan it with AVG free or similar virus scan. I've had to do that procedure a few times in order for me to install and run anything on customers computers that gets so infected with stuff.

How do I slave my hard drive into another computer? My computer won't let me drag anything from any folder anywhere. So I cannot put it on my computer. I tried running the file that downloaded from the website and it won't run. Again, I just get a website with spam after it thinks.

What he means by that is to PHYSICALLY remove your hdd from the infected computer, then what you do is hook it up onto another computer as a SLAVE. Boot up the other computer, then use AVAST or some similiar antivirus with a BOOTTIME scanner to scan for infected files.

So is this infection on my hard drive or some other part of my computer? I don't see how slaving it to another computer will allow me to run these programs. The infection will not allow me to drag files. So why would I suddenly be able to drag and install files by moving the hard drive. How do I install avast on the hard drive when it is in the new computer? I will still be opening my infected hard drive.

There are malicious infections out there that will not let you browse anywhere to download software to clean it up or that will allow you to update your antimalware and antivirus programs to clean it up. I've actually had to take a customers hard drive out of there system and slave it to mine and then scan it with avg to clean it to a point where when i put it back in the customers system that it will allow it to update and run the programs that i need to. This may be the same problem for you. Antivirus 2009 is an infection, most likely you have more than that infection on your system though. If you don't feel comfortable slaving your hard drive to another system, then you have 2 options.

1. Format you hard drive and reinstall windows and all programs.
2. Take the system somewhere to have them remove the infections and fix windows if need be.

I feel comfortable but as I said, what does that mean? Just pop it into another computer case? I thought the infection was on the hard drive so doing that wouldn't I just be encountering the same problems I am now? Im not sure I understand what you mean by Slaving it.

Do I keep the other hard drive in there? Do I boot up my hard drive or the other one? If I boot up the other one, how do I end up cleaning mine?

As I said, I have no money, I am living pay check to pay check. I have no copies of windows. My only option is to do it myself.

You take the hard drive that has the infection on it and remove it from your system. You find another system that has virus and malware programs on it already before you attach your drive to it. Is your hard drive IDE or SATA? If IDE then you just put your drive on the unused connector and set the jumper on your drive to slave and make sure existing drive is set to master. If your drive is SATA then you just connect your drive to an open SATA connector. You boot up that system making sure it boots to that drive, not yours. Open the antivirus program and scan your drive with it. There should be a setting to where you can select what drives to scan. I'm trying to explain this as simple as possible for you. You might want to find a computer savvy friend that can help you out.
