computer / monitor problem

Hi...I am having a problem with either my computer or my monitor.

When I use the mouse to scroll the page I get, in certain circumstances, what I can only describe as a "ripple" going down the page.
If I click once on the top or bottom arrows to move the page I get one "ripple" for each click .
eg. if I click 10 times on the arrow, I get a series of 10 "ripples"
If I click on the bar and drag it to scroll, I get dozens of "ripples" each one I suppose relating to one line so to speak.

This is even more strange by the fact that when I open this "new thread" page the problem is apparent, but while I am working in the "message" box, the scrolling works fine but as soon as I submit the post or preview the post the problem is back, but when I again start on the message, it's ok.

Please be aware that this problem is not peculier to this program, it applies in any program I open, note also that I have tried various mice with the same effect.

Any suggestions appreciated...many thanks....Mike

What type of monitor ? CRT/TFT

At a guess I would say CRT and it's getting too hot/old!!

If not then what's your screens refresh rate set at? put it as high as you can.

it will be in your graphics settings, try right clicking in the system tray on the graphics icon or use the control panel in your OS, (assuming M$ )

Have you got any speakers or other magnetic devices too close to the monitor?

I have looked in the control panel for a graphics icon...can't find anything.

No...no speakers.

Right click on your desktop-->properties-->settings tab-->advanced--> monitor tab--> Screen refresh rate, make sure that "Hide modes this monitor cannot display" is checked and then set it to the highest Hertz you can choose.

check your control panel again for a Nvidia logo button or it may not be there if you haven't installed the correct drivers for the graphics(only using the basic XP preloaded one)
Run "dxdiag" in start menu run box and click on DISPLAY tab to see what graphics card you have , then go to either Nvidia/ ATI (or even Omega) website to download the appropriate driver for your system :)
