Computer Monitors High Def?

Just had a question...

My computer says it's 1024 by 768 pixels. High-def televisions go up to 1080p (I'm assuming 1080 pixels). Does this mean that computer monitors display, or are capable of displaying, high-def?

CRT's can be more hi def than a hi def TV easily. the pixel rate (or something like that) it much better on a monitor and the dot pitch is much better than on any TV.

i wouldnt call it hi-def. before hi def came out, monitors were far superior to tvs, and they still are, but the margin has decreased.

1024x768 isnt high enough of a resolution to display true 720P or 1080P HD content. But because the screen is so small (compared to a 40"+ TV), it seems high def.

1080p = 1920 x 1080
Most expensive TFT screens = 1600 x 1200

A screen needs more pixels the larger it is to keep the same detail. it's all about how many pixles per inch it has.

there are 42 inch LCD monitors that get 2??? x 2??? (replace ? with a number) they are real nice :D and expensive :( i saw someone showing it off on youtube
