my uncle wanted me to put a CD RW in his old pentium 3 computer. I put it in and pluged the ide lead in but its detecting it as a cd rom. He also have got a dvd rom in the computer and when i plug the CD RW where the dvd rom was plug it wont detect the cd writer at all.

it isnt seing it correctly in windows as it saying its a cd rom drive instead of CD RW.:) :) cheers for the help.

It's normal to see any IDE optical drive as CD-ROM in BIOS.
If you have both optical drives on the same IDE cable, make sure you have the jumpers set right on both devices.
