computer not reading ram?

I have 2 gbs of corsair xms2 ram installed onto my motherboard(fp-in9-sli) but when i check sys. info it says it has only 1?Is the 1 stick of ram defective?
 
According to the specifications on the Abit model there you shouldn't be seeing any problems as long as each of the two 1gb dimms is in the first slot on each channel. You want to try reseating both dimms unless you went with four 512mb dimms instead. But make sure the memory is down fully in the slots and the retainer clicks inplace. If you still see the same try running memtest or another "good" memory tester on each alone.

Some reviews point to that model Fatality board as the gaming OCer's dream despite the 8x mode seen with SLI there.
