computer on 24/7...bad?

hey , i was woundering if leaving ur computer on 24/7 was bad o not, b/c im getting worryied that the cpu fan will burn out or sumthin and my cpu will fry to a crisp. what you guys think?

Usually i keep my computer on 24/7, i dont think the cpu fan or any other component will die anytime soon, if i can recall, a power supply can last 3.4 years if left on 24/7. Not sure about the cpu fan, but im sure they last a while. As for your cpu frying, do you keep your computer on for days and dont use it? because if you use it frequently then you would notice if something was starting to die.

And what he said, it uses alot of electricity.

i personaly just put it into standby mode, it saves electricity and you dont have to wait forever to start up, it keeps the programs you have running, running.

yea, but my computer's bios wont let it com out of standby , but i dont want to flash the bios i have because it has loads more settings than the other bios' they have out for my mobo

I keep mine on all the time, since I got it which was a year ago..of course i have shut it off a few times, but it has been on more then not, I would say 80% of the year I have had it, it has been on....but i expierience no problems so far....and i dont pay for electric either so i can keep it on :)

exactly the same as my situation. most fans have a lifespan of about 20,000 hours, so it should last quite a while. plus, as stated, if it is starting to die, you would notice. the computer would lock up and i think a BSOD comes up, so you wouild turn your comp off anyway.

i have a computer from '98 thats been on 24/7 since weve gotton it, maybe 2x a month i turn it off-still use it everyday, and still works great

My old system from around 2002 is still running strong, and much of it's life was left on. Now, it's had many different harddrives and those are prob. the first things to die.

However, my old server(an older system from about 2000) recently died. Obviously, it was on 24/7. It looks like a couple capaciters expanded. I'm having some problems with my RAM too(I beleive it was what was from the system, I have 2 identical sticks and got them mixed up!) I don't think it was getting overly too hot, but it wasn't cool...
