computer parts in 1996

i work at the local recycling center in town and someone brought in a ton of PC Magazines and PC World Magazines from 1996 and 1997. It's amazing how much times change and how quickly the prices drop. I was reading some articles and it talkes about a budget PC being $1000-$1600 (now you can get a dell for $299). They all have Pentium 166Mhz.

And a 3GB ahrd drive costs $300, i also noticed that back then everything said "only takes up 28MB!" and an editor saying that maybe one day we will have unlimited storage. Look at us now, we can get a 250GB hard drive for only about $150.

Also, what i found really interesting, was that a 33K modem costs between $200-$500 for a laptop, and $200-$400 for a desktop. I could never imagine paying that much for a modem. Now i know why we never hadinternet back then in my house. lol

and in 10 years a 250GB harddrive being $150 will look foolish, and you'll be able to purchase a 3 tetrabyte/terabyte (?) GB HD will be like $90....and the average computer will be the size of your hand....it'll be greaet!!!

ya, too bad you cant go back in time, you can buy an 80GB hard drive now for $50 and sell it to them for $5000. Time travel would be great

Except for the fact that as soon as you do something like that you'd risk having the universe explode or some other sort of catastrophe. I really hope that's another boundary that we never cross...

At least i made $4950 :)

Always looking at the financial side of things eh, geoff? (Personally, if I was going to do anything, I'd go back to about 1985 and buy some Microsoft stock..., make A LOT more money that way ;))

Yeah, don't you guys see the point? It dosn't matter if the world explords 5 minites after return. At leat he was 4950$ richer for the last 5 minites of his life, Instead of living it to the fullest for many years, duh.

I'd go back in time and kill my parents, and prevent my self from ever being born :)

i had a packard bell in 1994 or around that time and it came with 4 mb of ram. it cost me 70$ to upgrade to 8 mb of ram. that beast was fast.

thats only one theory as to the effect. The reason that this theory i so popular is because it is so simple, however this theory is not supported by those experimenting with time travel. So keep you fingers crossed, and stock up on 80gb drives.

You would only be able to kill one of your parents, since once you kill one of them, your instantly no-exsistant.

maybe i would think of it as yes you wont be born but you are alerady in existance and even though in the future you will not be born you are still here...

and i think i would sell the 80gb hard drive to a research place and be like yaaaa im a genuis...

lol, or give go back tothe early 90's where all they had were 28.8Kbps modems, and say, heres a 56K modem, beat this. lol

HDDs use the same process now they did then, we are just better at it and can lay the tracks closer together.

and since it would look like he made the tracks lay closer together they would still call him a genuis.

My theory of time is taht time travel is impossible. If you go back you will change something meaning the future wouldn't be the way it was. But if you did then you never would have travelled back (or at least not at the exact same time) meaning that what you changed would never have happened. Traveling forward means that you change something that is going to happen thereby altering the chain of events leading up to that. This also means that you wouldn't have travelled at the same time. Thus ends my explaination.
