computer pet peeves?

When my Windows Media Player decided to randomly torture me, plays a song that isn't mine (The unholy Britney Spears - Toxic song) for half an hour straight without letting me close out, change the song, or turn my volume down.

THAT was HELL.

How? couldnt you turn your speakers off?

I have no clue how, my computer does that at times. I tried turning the volume down and such, and it just didn't work. The good news though - last time it decided to do that it was with a song I had PICKED to listen to.

hmmmmm mine's more people related

Comptuer sales people who don't have a clue what they are talking about. PC world staff in the UK are prime examples, giving totally wrong advice....

Actually that can also be a source of amusement, pop down and ask for something then continually correct them....entertaining if your really bored.

People on forums and such who think they know what they are talking about but are blatantly wrong but cant accept it

Yeah, a PC World chick told me the 20" iMac doesn't exist.

If it wasn't for me having to spend my ENTIRE weekend and Monday babysitting, I'd pop down to PC World and piss about with my chavvy bro, who works there.

lol, im sworn enemies with anyone who works for PC World, now i work for Maplins and uits an age old confilct that Maplins is always better and can do everything that PC World cant, if a customer comes in and starts talking about their experiences we shun them (jokinlgy obviously, but its fun)

My pet peeves, cant really think of any major ones at the moment, maybe when you hit the ump button at the crucial moment in a game then it doesnt jump becuase the game lagged, and you die. That annoys the hell out of me

Another one is just the whole concept around having to fool and trick windows into recognising and installing hardware, it couldnt just be easy, no, long winded and buggy...

I agree with Win ME, i got that when it came out, biggest waste of time ever. Im sure MS only released it to boost their product portfolio.

Another pet peeve, is why PCI expansion card manufacturers (like TV cards etc...) put the external connectors too close to the top/bottom of the PCI plate, so you have to jam it in real hard to get it to fit cos theres a ruddy great phono connector in the way, lol

Another thing is just two words PROPRIETARY CONNECTIONS why o why do manufacturers do that

What else can i think of... code that wont compile even though you know its 100% correct..... gah!

My power LED on my cse, bloody obnoxious thing if you put itinto standby, it flashes repeatedly very fast, and its damn bright, so in a pitch balck room, youve got an ultra bright LED constantly flashing when your trying to sleep

Printers with no ink

Apple (the company) annoys me

Anyone running less than 1024x768 although 1280x1024 is preferred

The difference between KB and Kb, stupid STUPID marketing, how i hate thee!!!! CURSE

Thermal Compound - surely they could make one that DOESNT stick to your fingers, and doesnt stain clothes permanently, or one that doesnt cook itslef to the processor..... :(

A bit off topic but the Sky HD (high def) adverts on TV, got all sparkly images and rich colours.... But just think, htey are trying to showcase HD-TV to you throguh your ordinary normal TV, so wtf is the point when its gonna be the same damn quality as normal TV, lol. DUMB

Parallel ports, useless unless you live 10 years ago.

A case advertised as "TOOL-LESS" when it quite blatanttly isnt because the damn machine tightened the thumb screws up beyond belief. DONT LIE

"Tinny" speakers (aka, no bass)

that'll do for now, turns out i do have a lot of annoyances, lol

dragon

i hate those black bars around the edges of crt monitors! i can never get them just right! thats why i love the auto adjust feature most lcd's have

I hate it when people dont care about the black bars...i have mine at about a millimeter apiece, hardly noticable, but at school, the teachers dont even know how and there are INCHES of space...

Computer illiterate people who refuse to accept they are wrong

TFT monitors not running at there correct resolution (IE a 1280x1024 monitor running ar 1024x768

Condescending people at PC world talking to you like you are an idiot

Slowness of windows XP install, and slowness in general

The price of software

Having to be 18 to sign up to anything online

OSX not being available [legally] for PC

Buying something you thought was good, then realising it is crap

Drivers, why can't all printers use the same driver, all scanners, all wifi cards etc.

The use of "plug and play" when drivers are required

Computers that just won't die

Errors that are meaningless ("Your network has experienced a problem... CONTACT THE ADMINISTRATOR" - who do I call, myself ??)

My broadband being relatively slow

Computer Illiterate people trying to show you what to do

Trying to tell someone older than you (e.g. parents) what to do, when the refuse to accept they are wrong

Programs that don't come with an un-installer

People who say software {insert app name here} is best because everyone uses it

I think that's all for know

Hey! I work 4 PC World and am a sales guy  :(

You just admitted you don't have a clue what you're talking about when it comes down to PC's. You just burned yourself. :P

I hate it when the computer doesn't work the next day even though it was working without any signs of any issues yesterday.

And when people type brands and names in general incorrectly. I guess I'm a perfectionist.

Intel for advertising their Centrino in such a way that people thought it meant they could get wireless internet anywhere in the world, even up a mountain.

Before my current job i was in computer sales and it wrecked my head, the amount of people coming in, buying one and then coming back to complain when they cant connect to the internet at the top of the garden, without router or even internet into the house!!!!

Computers advertised as internet ready....yes those of us that know computers realise that we need to get an ISP and most liekly wires etc. Cmpanies seem to think just throwing a modem in the computer means its "ready"...its not ready...it still needs software, ISP and wires you muppets
