Computer Possibilited in May 2007

Hey guys,
I am getting a new computer once the school year ends. The time period will fall at around the end of May. I am really looking forward to having a new computer and would like to think of possible options and what to wait for and what no to. I will have around 1,300 USD. What do you guys think I could purchase with that money in May?
I am looking at:
2 gigs of Ram
500 gig HD
Processor I am not sure about. AMD or Intel by then?
DX10 Video Card similar to the 7900GT field.
700 Watt power supply
Windows Vista
Microsoft Office 2007
Some type of nice case

My main questions concern the processors and video cards, but also the memory. Will there be new types of memory? Which processor do you think willl be the best. And the DX10 will be out by then?

Also, do you guys think I could fit in a computer with those parts with such a relatively low price?

Wait until your about to buy, then ask. What parts will be most cost effective in 7 months is hard to answer today.
 
For $1300 without monitor/key/mouse, you can possibly get a computer like that. The main question will be the price of Vista and Office, which might take out $700 of that, which means there is no possible way to fit hardly any of that into a $500 range. You are either going to have to pass up Vista and Office or compromise your computer.
 
I can get office for free through my dad or just use my old Office 2003. I guess I am just looking too far ahead, but it seems like it would be a good time to buy right?

Do you mean now, or in May of 2007? Early-mid next year will be a great time to buy, since quad core, DX10, and Vista will be out, and most of the major bugs should be worked out by then as well.

Student/education stuff is huge. I'm going to make the girlfriend hook me up with Vista through her college, since hers is offering it to students discounted/free and mine isn't. Also, I just got Office 2003 from my college for free. Most schools purchase education license agreements which lets them use it on all students computers. Of course I made a copy of the CD since I have to reinstall quite often, but still.
 
OMEGA, I am talking about May 2007. Do you guys think AMD will catch up to Intel in processors by then? THe motherboards shouldn't be very different right, so which one do you guys think I should look at ahead of time?

My brother goes to college so he could get me the software at a lesser price. Great idea.

Motherboards might be different, as they will probablt have different sockets. Basically, you cant look ahead 7 months at anything.
 
Yea I guess you are right. Right now I have 1 gig in my computer of RAM. I thought that was a lot until I played games like BF2. Do you guys think that if I do buy a new computer that I should look at 4 gigs instead of 2 for the exact same reason concerning new games.
