computer power up

REcently i got a new (although extreemly old) case for, maybe $10. recently i found out that the cord from the power button on the front does not coincide with any slots on the front. To get around this, a little, i tested all the pins on the cord with the button to find which 2 cords the button affects, and I tested (by shorting out two at a time) prongs on the mobo to find out which 2 cause it to turn on (there are only 2, right?). After i found out all that, i still need some kind of adapter to attach the case power to the mobo. where could i find such an adapter, or is there a way around all this?

You talking about the case front panel connectors, if you are, do you have a small computer store near you they might have some of them

ok, still playing with the pins on the mobo.....

is there only two pins for power usually, or are there two for power and two for restarting?

Theres 2 for the Power button, 2 for the the Reset button, 2 for the Power/LCD and 2 for the HD/LCD. Then you have the case speaker pins too. You can trace the wires to see where there coming from.

asuuming the pins are set up like this:

9
8 7
6 5
4 3
2 1

from shorting out, pins 7 and 5 restart the computer, and pins 7 and 8 restart the computer, but i cant find out which two shut the stupid thing off.
