anybody help? please?

does you computer beep during the POST when you switch on your computer? cos at this stage it could be a number of things so you have to narrow down your search.

What external devices do you have connected to the system? A fault in an external device such as a printer can bog down a system.

True, you should try disconnecting or peripherals from the computer and then try it and keep doing this with only one peripheral at a time. Yes, it can take a while but it can diagnose the problem.
If you do get the post beeps on start up you can check what they mean here http://www.computerhope.com/beep.htm#05
This might be helpful!

If you are uncertain about which make bios you have on your board download BIOS Agent or BIOS Wizard at http://www.pchell.com/hardware/beepcodes.shtml If you are not hearing any beep codes you may need for either a bios update or repair of the master boot record. Even with XP you can repair the mbr with an old 98 or ME startup floppy by booting with one of those and typing "fdisk /mbr" at the dos prompt or "FIXBOOT", "FIXMBR" at the Recovery console in XP.

I also argree that you should post your system specs.

Mean while, when you boot xp next time go to START - RUN and type in " msconfig" - OK - STARTUP - DISABLE ALL. After it will ask you to restart. do that and tell us what happens?

Yeah, good idea. What the thing that blacklabelrum told you about does is that it disables everything that is loaded up at the startup of your computer so that you don't get any lag from the background processes that loads up.

The main problem here is not knowing precisely if it is a Windows or hardware issue causing an enormous lag on bootup time. A failing bios chipset where the NV Ram is losing info would also see this as well as others like memory or even the cpu. That's on internal hardwares. But let's wait for a question on any external devices being the cause before assuming anything internal.

I still think he should post this specs? For one, I'll wana know which version of windows he's running and then again, we dont know how much RAM he has? he could be using 64MB? for all we know? So before jumping to conclusions, I think it would give us a better idea as to what we are dealing with. Thats all.

It's called the process of elimination there. System specs provided along with disconnection of any usb or firewire devices(one common cause) will help in isolating the cause. We still have to wait for a response Xwardos however.
