ok so i have a computer that i built a while ago...

the specs are:

Motherboard: Asus P4P800-VM
Socket 478 for Pentium4/Celeron
Supports PC3200/PC2700/PC2100 MEMORY
Integrated Intel Extreme Graphics 2 Video Card
Processor:
Pentium 4 2.4 GHZ, 533mhz, PGA-478
350Watt Max Power Supply that came with Case
and the Hard Drive i have been having problems with

First I had a Maxtor 100GB
Than I had to switch it because the computer stopped turning on for some reason and it would not recognize it anymore
So I got a Seagate 120GB

now the computer will not turn on at all and just keeps making this weird noise and nothing comes up on the screen but the lights and the fans turn on

does anyone know what might be the problem

im thinkin maybe the power supply

any suggestions will help

If you are hearing beeps you will listen to see if one long beep is followed by two or three short pointing at a video card while another combination willl point at bad memory. With a bad bios eprom or failed chipset you wouldn't hear any audio alerts. Listen to the pattern. A continuous beeping sound would likely indicate a bad cpu. Award bios error codes can be looked over at http://www.computerhope.com/beep.htm#05

well the noise comes from the hard drive like its starting to read somethin and than stops and tries again but than stops and it does that the whole time

Without any audio alerts being heard from the board's speaker it wouldn't be a video card. A failed or bad hard drive wouldn't prevent the initial post screen from coming up. That woiuld pointing at the board or supply as the most likely since the powerup draws more at that time on the supple then while Windows is running. A bad supply or board fault would be the two things to look at there.
