Over the weekend i was on my computer and a storm came in, didnt get off the computer early enough (yeah i know, oops) Anyways the computer made a loud popping noise and then lost power. The motherboard light was flashing repeatedly, so I bought a new power supply. Installed the psu and the light remained lit like normal, computer booted up and ran fine the rest of the night, except for the network adapter on the mobo being out as well as my cable modem. The next day i went to turn the computer on and after a few seconds of booting up it lost power and went dead. The farthest it has ever got before losing power was a couple seconds after the desktop loaded. Also after it loses power and goes dead, it wont turn back on without first switching the psu off and back on or unplugging it from the outlet. I have a new mobo on the way, it wont be here for 2-3 more days and am just curious if im headed in the right direction?
AMD 6000 dual core processor
ATI Radeon x1950 pro 256mb video card
Asus M2R32-MVP mobo
4gb ram
BFG Technologies 650 watt psu(old, replaced with BFG 550 watt psu)
I went with a little smaller psu only because i was running 2 video cards when i built the computer, a 550 watt should be enough and not be causing my problems?
Oh and before anyone says it, I plan on getting a UPS once i get the computer going. Any help or advice is much appreciated.
