I was having problems with my computer after a vista installation. It started turning off and on right each within about 10 seconds of each other whenever I turned it on initially. It then started working after I removed one of the RAM sticks inside of it. After playing around with the order my RAM is in my slots, I was able to get vista to work with both 512mb sticks in it. The initial problem was as follows:
---I-----I-------I-------I
Slot 1--Slot 2--Slot 3--Slot 4
512MB-----------------512MB
So Hp had initally 1 stick in the first and forth slot both 512mb DDR2 200mhz
Now I placed it like this (3rd and fourth) and it started working
---I-----I-------I-------I
Slot 1--Slot 2--Slot 3--Slot 4
---------------512MB--512MB
Just today I bought a 1GB DDR2 stick at 333mhz (I know I shouldnt have two different frequencies at the same time) and configured it like this (1,3,4) and it was still working....
---I-----I-------I-------I
Slot 1--Slot 2--Slot 3--Slot 4
1GB------------512MB--512MB
It was working like that for the whole day until tonight when I downloaded a vista update. After the update my computer started acting the same way as before, constantly turning off and on (restarting) after an intital boot screen.
JSome of my system specs are as follows:
HP media center M1760n
Pentium D 2.8Ghz
the RAM mentioned above
ATI x700 PCI Express
2 dvd drives
I also just bought a 2GB DDR2 stick with 800mhz and a 8800GT on ebay which will come in later. I'm probably gonna run into problems with those as well.
Well I really need help and thought you people on here might know whats wrong or what I can do to fix it. Also, my power supply does not have any writing on it so I do not know how much power it is giving off. Doubt thats my problem now though, might encounter something with it when installing my new graphics card.
