Computer question

Hi all,

I have exams coming up:( and i've been doing some past papers. I have come accross a question and i can't do it, i've looked at the mark scheme and that doesn't tell you how to do it either so i'm wondering if one of you clever chaps might help me so here goes:

The system stores floating point numbers in normalised form using 2's complement, with an 8-bit mantissa and a 4-bit exponent. State the value of 1011 1110 0100 in denary if it represents a two's complement. floating point number.

The answer is -8.25 but i'd like to know how to get there.

Thanks

Well i'm in year 13 but i'm retaking one fo the modules in year 12, the course i'm taking is purely computing. Extremly hard and i hope i get through it.
