No idea why this is happening... ill be playing a game, it will work fine, then out of the blue it will just STOP, and be frozen ... will have to reboot to use the computer again.. what also just happened, was defraggin, at 3% just locked up, but i could move the mouse.. usually when it locks up its TOTALLY frozen, like you took a screen shot of the desktop.

the comp is brand new, just put it together like aweek ago

its an amd a8n32-sli deluxe mb
amd 64 toledo 4400+ DC processor
western digital hdd
ati all-in-wonder 2006 pci-e edition 256mb video card

etc etc..

i would seriously consider checking the temperatures in your system, you should have a utility on your motherboard disk that should do the trick.

i would also consider updating all of your drivers as bed drivers can cause stability issues.

my cpu is 40deg, and my mb is 38deg, and i am on an online game at the moment...

all of my driversare updated to the best of my knowledge...

This is what happened to me when I had corrupt RAM. Run memtest and see if any errors come up:

http://www.memtest86.com/

You have to run it from a floppy, set the first boot device as your floppy drive. If you dont have a FDD, then you can burn a CD version.

that doesn't necessarily mean anything... in fact i'm sure that information is read from the SPD chip on the memory.... run the memory to see if its the problem

i am starting to think that the hard drive is kind of corrupted ... i tried to defragment again last night, 5 times, and it all froze around 7%. i also left the computer on over night, and when i woke up it was frozen...

i think im going to try reformatting tonight and see if that fixes anything, unless anyone has any better suggestions.... i mgiht try that memory thing before i format, which version do i download? i just extract it and burn the bat file to a cd and run in through dos?

Well i had the same problem. For me it was my powersupply. If you can borrow a friends PSU(with a higher wattage) and put it in ur machine. The whole thing is after a certain amount of running hours the PSU, like any computer part, wears down and doesnt put out the same watts. Hope this helps.

I just reformatted and updated everything, and it is still doing it.

i dont believe it is the PSU, it is brand new and seems to work fine. I have a new one on the way, because with my lexa case came a dead psu from nzxt.

but as for it just randomly freezing, i have absolutley no idea why.

Well depending on ur psu ur hardware might be asking for to much power. Also if you have a stock psu that came with the case, gently take it out of the case and graba bat and kill it for sure.

I downloaded memtest and ran it as a bootable cd, but its in some other language... i think its german, i clicked the 3.2 bootable cd link, so i dont know..

as for it being the psu, i dobut it... im using a 350w right now, and theres a 500 sitting on my bed (oem that came with case, was doa, just arrived today) i will be putting that in tonight, but i dont think tis the psu cause its not under load or anything...

asus said it might be the memory, and if it isnt the memory its most likely the memory reader on the motherboard they said....
