so i'll be using my computer then randomly it will shut off without warning ,very random. it's AM2 AMD x2 3800+, motherboard is ASUS M2N-E,. i dont know if mabye it's overheating or whats up. i also have another problem, my internet will last for awhile then stop working, then i have to unplug and plug the power ac cord to my SMC wireless router, then the internet will work for awhile and then shut off, anybody know whats up.

The system shutdown could easily be due to an overheated cpu if the Cool'n'Quiet was enabled in the bios. The overheat protection circuit on Asus model boards will simply shut the system to prevent damage there. Upon a new build here right after applying Artic Silver 5 the system was run for several hours until the cpu here reached 60C and the OPC kicked in and simply shut the system off.

The router sounds like it is on the way out if you are forced to recycle the ac constantly and still see it switch off on it's own. It sounds like some component is overheating there. Plan on a replacement.

With that being a new AM2 model board you may need a bios update. This is often the recommendation given for running a dual cored cpu on the new boards out. That or a bad cap in the supply where a sudden power drop sees the system shutdown without reason are things to look into there. The 35C is definitely too low for any protection circuit to kick in provided the board has no defect.

First you have to review the user's manual or download the PDF version for that model board. Most now have an easy flash method when you are first starting the system up. You can download the PDF version of the manual itself from one of the links at http://support.asus.com/download/download_item.aspx?product=1&model=M2N32-SLI Deluxe&SLanguage=en-us

On older models you would download the AWDFlash utility to prepare a 3 1/2" floppy to boot from. This would be booted with once you had a copy of the update at the root of the hard drive. The update would be included with the flash tool on the floppy too. You would boot with the floppy and manually start the utility. You would then be prompted for the name of the update. That had to be entered exactly the way it was spelled.

With the newer models the proceedure is to simply download the update and follow the instructions in the manual to press the assigned key when starting up and proceed from there. Follow the manual correctly and it will program the bios quickly and easily.

Remember to follow those instructions carefully and you will go through it quickly. It doesn't take only a minute or so once you are in there.
