Computer Really Slow

Hi I am on windows xp and when I start my computer normally it is so slow it takes like 5 minutes when I hit the start menu. I also cannot system restore because it says it failed, try a different date. I am on safe mode as we speak but I cannot do the options I can when im normally running windows. If you know any fixed please let me know!

have you run adaware test and virus scan?

if you have any norton products they wont let you use system restore by default.

Either you have very low RAM, or an virus as sugested above. System specs?

hmm,

I had simmilar problem in the past.

My PC was running slow and I couldnt run system restore.

The problem was a hard drive and the bad sectors on it.

I run Hirens CD and I runned the software.

It was running for 27 hours (160 GB HDD)

It rebuild bad sectors and my computer was fast again.

After this do hdd defragmentation and regisrty clean scan.
