I have no clue as to why such a new computer keeps doing this, but today it just shut down, rebooted, got into windows, rebooted again, and I don't know why...

I just took off the side of the case and it stayed on right now... Any ideas??:(

OK, we aren't getting anywhere real fast so we will get a Hijackthis log posted

  • Download Hijackthis from here
  • Then run hijackthis and do a system scan only
  • A notepad window will pop up
  • Copy (Ctrl + C) and paste (Ctrl + V) it into a forum reply

Is your computer crashing??? BSOD? After you boot it up does it turn intoa blue screen with white letters? It might be an overheating issue if your computer does all those trhings.

BSOD - Blue Screen of Death

No no BSOD.. I was running ALOT of crap and then it just went black, and rebooted, and when it got into windows as things loaded it rebooted again, so as it rebooted I took of the side panel and it has run fine since (SO FAR)..

Could this possibly be a heat issue being it's been so hot lately?

Sounds like your CPU is getting to hot, i had the same problem, are you able to find out your CPU temps?

Yes. Actually, I'm not sure exactly why a HJT was suggested, as the problem you have is heat-related pretty much 99% of the time, but oh well... A few things...what kind of computer is it, what CPU does it have, and how long have you had it? Also, what are the conditions of the room it's in (ambient temp, near a window, in direct sunlight, etc.).

To see your CPU temp, you can download SpeedFan, PC Wizard, Everest, or Core Temp (If you have a C2X CPU). They will show you temps of components - it's best to use at least two at first to make sure you get accurate readings, you can drop down to one afterwards. If your BIOS has a hardware monitoring page, you can also see your CPU temp and fan speed from there. That's actually the best way to see an Idle temp because your CPU is running at full speed (no EIST), but at zero load.

With CPU heat issues, the end-result is usually pulling the HS(F) and reapplying thermal compound. In some cases though, the original HS(F) if just crap and the entire unit is replaced with a better one.

I'm running SpeedFan with just Firefox open and my CPU runs at around 27C, and 29C for my HDD, but During the day things get pretty hot in my house all together... By the way my cpu fan is running at 2280 RPM....

hhhmmm..... try cleaning your case out, make sure all the fans are working within the case and have good air flow around the case.

CPU in my sig, and I've had it for about 3 months...

Heh, sorry :P

800 Series or 900 Series? Get a second opinion from another Temp program, because that seems a bit low for the 900's and *way* low for an 840 - they ran fairly warm. Best I got my 940 down to was 31*C at Idle.

Anyway, grab a can of canned air and blow out the inside of the case and around all the components. I'd pull the HSF off and blow the air through the fins, too - you're basically looking for a dust-free case interior. Since the HSf is going to be pulled, you'll have to apply new thermal compound. Best bet is to get some AS-5 or the new MX-something or other and use that - it'll be much better than stock or no-name stuff. Make sure you have adequate airflow inside the case, too (ie - no cables blocking intake fans, exhaust fans working, etc.).

Please open up your HijackThis. Click Do a system scan only.
Find and check this file:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [KernelFaultCheck] %systemroot%\system32\dumprep 0 -k

Now reboot your computer and your problem should be terminated.
