Hey all

I have a serious problem with my computer and can not work out how to fix it or what the problem is exactly. Everytime i turn my computer on it comes up with a page with a graphic and the motherboard name has always done this, this is not the problem. But the computer reset every 3-5 second from when i pres the powerbutton and repeats this process until u switch the computer off.

Before this happened i played around with the bios a bit then it started doin this, i have tried takin the battery off the motehrboard to rest the bios but this has not work. it is not faulty ram i have swapped the ram over and tried other sticks of ram, still does not fix the problem.

the motherboard is a asus i think but will get hte percific specs on my hole computer asap.

Anyone got any ideas???

please help, i know bit more than basic computer knowledge so please try to explain clearly for me.

Thanks

When you take out the battery make sure you unplug the computer from power first, I think it still retians settings while plugged in regardless of whether the battery is in or not.

Have you tried unplugging the computer, waiting for the PSU to run out (Some have a small LED on the back that stays on for about 10 seconds or so after the power cord is unplugged, wait for that to go out), and then take out the battery for a few minutes? You may also want to get the model # of your motherboard and I can try to lookup how to clear the CMOS using the jumper on the board (if this board has this feature).

Look to make sure all fans are moving air and that they are in the right way. I believe the CPU fan is supposed to blow towards the processor, through the heatsink. Not sure on that though.

If you played with the BIOS, get back in there and look for a setting that will reset everything to Default Values. Restart. Then change just one thing at a time, if you really have to change stuff. Keep notes! Then when you change something and it messes up, the last thing you futzed with is the culprit. Put it back the way you found it.

I would check the power supply completely, test it and listen to it. And if you did not power off and unplug the computer and let loose the lil charge that is roaming around the system. You could have fried the motherboard. Go back to basics. Look and listen for trouble codes. Make sure the RAM and everything is nice and snug into place.
