Computer restarts on its own

I've been trying figure out an issue on my friends computer for almost 2 days now. After several minutes of browsing on the computer, it'd restart on its own. I checked the power options, and figured it must've been a virus, so I formatted the drive, and installed a fresh copy of Windows XP Home Edition. 45 mins into browsing (while installing some drivers), it restarts itself again, and continues to do so. This time, I tried installing a fresh copy of Windows XP Pro, and now set-up can't finish without it continously restarting itself. Clearly its a hardware issue now correct? Only thing I can think of a maybe a faulty power supply? The computer restarts, not shut off. Any ideas? Thanks!

Maybe.... overheating?

Your CPU appears to be overheating. That would be a good start. The processors usually shutdown and restarts if it starts to heat up too much. Try entering the bios after a forced restart and see what core temperature the CPU is at.

If it is overheating, I suggest underclocking it or getting a better fan..... or open the case for now and turn up the AC.

This has happened to one of my CPUs before.

wow..
that same thing happened to me, the restarting stuff

but after i reinstalled Windows and reformatted it and stuff, it worked..
