Computer restarts randomly

I have a problem with my desktop computer. i recently installed a clean copy of XP Home edition (problem was happening before aswel).

Every time i put my computer under stress either exploring a cd-rom or opening a program such as open office and even playing a game such command and conquer tiberiansun it will just restart. no popups no warning what so ever.

i have had this computer running perfectly fine for about 2 years but this has only started happening recently. what is the problem?

this also happens on another computer but this ones even worse. cant even open an mp3 file without it restarting and driving me around the bend.

my drivers work fine as they are all from the origional cds given to me when i bought the hardware.

i have virus scanned with nod32 and nothing was detected. and i checked inside to see if anything was loose or plugged in wrong.

can someone please give me a decent solution.

Try running the system with different ram. I had a computer that would restart it's self without warning and it was the ram.

I am almost certain it is not the RAM i check in the motherboard handbook and the type of RAM i am using is 100% supported. I also thought it was lak of power but with a 1000w power supply how can there be a shortage.

could it be due to something shorting it out, i dunno like a metal screw or the end of a connector or something.

you see the thing is sometimes its fine. for instance i can play C&CT all night but when i go sleep and wake back up the problems really sensitive.

i :(:(:(:confused:neeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeed :confused::(:(:(to fix this

go into control panel -> system -> startup and recovery

and uncheck automatically restart

then it *should* give a BSOD instead of rebooting. Post the code.

i have and it always shows the bsod whenever there is a system crash, but this system just restarts no blue screen no nothing, apart from "no signal!" (moniters text). i really cant figure this out. because i have not added any new hardware all of the drivers have stayed the same the only thing that has changed i might add, it the position of my tower which i moved from the floor to a desk.

Well if you have a Quad Core overclocked to 6.7ghz. like it says in your signature. That could cause a problem:D:D:D. Mind telling what processor this is?

My PC is a BEAST, but actually i think this is due to a hardware problem. listen to this. i put a cd into my DVD drive. tryed to install it but thats when it restarted. looking in my computer i oticed that the icon on the DVD drive was not the origional (funny windows icon) so i thought maybe its not reading the disc. then i changed the drive and put one that is less updated. it could read the disc and it doesn't seem to restart ATM.

well i could show you my rig or i could not.
its actually two processors in one motherboard. the motherboard is actually a server motherboard which supports two quad cores. each quad core processor runs at 3.00 ghz over clock them to 3.35 x2 equals 6.67.

the cpu is here
