How can i improve my system? I have no viruses/spyware when running mcafee/adaware/ms antispyware/spybot (apart from a few cookies with adaware). Cheers

You probably have a lot of programs running in memory. I would remove some non-required programs from launching at start up. What do you have running in your taskbar right now?

Right now i have ms antispyware, mcafee security center, pop up stopper (panicware), safely remove hardware. oh and msn messenger but that is not there on startup. I dont know if others are running but i cant see their icon.
I dont need anything wanadoo or phoneserve. I see traces in the log. althoogh im not the best at these logs and what everything means on them.

cheers dude!

I don't know about the log issue either, but, you can get WinPatrol 9.5 from www.pcworld.com and see exactly what programs are starting at Start-Up (among other things), and stop the ones that you don't want to start. It's free (the Plus version cost $20.00???, and gives you more info on selected programs) and a pretty handy utility, check it out.

hmmm everything seams ok. I have over 9 gb of music and videos, i have 256 ram (ddr), 2.3 ghz. I use perfect disk for defraging. Any opther suggestions?

If you're running Win. XP and only have 256Mb. of RAM, I think I would add some RAM. Take a look at Task Manager (under "Performance" tab) immediately after Start-up / Boot -up, and see how much your system peaked ("Commit Charge" peak, lower left corner) just booting up. It's probably over 200Mb. That doesn't leave much room to dance. Check it out. :)

Ya, you need more ram. Xp takes over 200 in a normal install and your virus scaner takes some and your itunes and all that. You i would suggest spending just a little bit and upgrading to 512 mbs.

I checked the peak eventualy it came to 203256. pf was 197 mb. CPU history is crazy - starts at 100% , 4...................then all of a sudden 70, 60, 50, 60 over the corse of like 20 blocks.

Yep, mine (Intel P4 2.66) jumps around a bit at first too. If you're going to up-grade the Ram, you might consider installing a 512Mb. stick next to your 256Mb. stick, if you've only got 2 Dimm slots. I don't know if you game much or what types of games or other apps. you run, but some are pretty hungry when it comes to Ram. Check the Task Manager after running each of the apps. so you can see how demanding they are in terms of Ram. For instance, my Dell Peaks out well over 700Mb. after playing N.w.N. Platinum. If you exceed your total "Physical Memory" shown in the Task Manager (under "Performance"), you start drawing on the Paging File, and that will make for some (alot) slower performance.
