computer running sluggish???

Hey! I don't know much about Hijackthis, but you may also want to think about defragmenting your drive, check for a virus, etc..

There's been a lot of talk about SP3 making machines with AMD CPUs run really slow, especially HP ones. Did the "sluggishness" appear after upgrading to SP3?

Also, try running CCleaner and RegCleaner to clean your computer out a little.

Is there any chance you could tell us what type of RAM your computer takes? Another 512 (or even as little as 256) would probably show major improvement, but if it takes SDRAM it's probably not worth it.

Also pls do the following:

Download and Run ComboFix
If you already have Combofix, please delete this copy and download it again as it's being updated regularly.

• Download this file from one of the three below listed places :

  http://subs.geekstogo.com/ComboFix.exe
  
• Then double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
• When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply

Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

Combofix should never take more that 20 minutes including the reboot if malware is detected.
If it does, open Task Manager then Processes tab (press ctrl, alt and del at the same time) and end any processes of findstr, find, sed or swreg, then combofix should continue.
If that happened we want to know, and also what process you had to end.

Then can you pls post a fresh hijackthis log.

Neither have I had any on my Presario w/Sempron (yet?), installed SP3 last weekend. It could be that they've already fixed whatever problems they were having (if any?), just heard that a lot of people had been complaining...

now their is the problem.

You have an AMD CPU, now they have had problems with SP3, SP3 has been slow on AMD CPUs, So uninstall SP3, as long as SP2 is up to date, you don't need SP3.

How come? The OP said that the computer'd been running slow far before getting SP3 (well that's how I understood it, anyways).

Did you run CCleaner & RegCleaner? If you did, and it didn't improve the situation, you can try updating all your drivers to see if your current drivers are messing something up. When/how is your computer slow anyway? Does your CPU usage stay at 100% or so all the time? If it's just windows booting up/programs opening up really slow, defrag should do the trick. What is your current memory usage? (Just hit ctr+alt+del to get to task manager and on the "Performance" tab it tells your CPU and RAM usage)

You may also want to uninstall any programs/games you don't need. How much HD space do you have left? Windows tends to get REALLLY slow when free space drops below a limit.

It could also be that you have too many programs running in the background. How much ram are you using now? How much of Hard drive space do you still have on the 40 gig?
But first run all the programs that the other have posted.

Increase you RAM. You only have 512ram which is the minimum req. for XP now. or maybe install the fix for SP3 for AMD problem http://softwarepatch.com/windows/windows-xp-sp3-amd-stop-0x0000007E.html. Try that
