Computer safe to put on floor

?? I put a laptop cooling mat under it even though it doesnt fit the entire computer. I'll give it a check up on the fans every two weeks aswell. Is this ok?
 
It that a desktop? Placing a desktop on a floor will see more dust drawn into an atx case more then anything. Most cases will see little circular pads on the bottom whether rubber or some plastic more common to avoid scratches made to the floor itself. Leaving a laptop on the floor however is an invitation for someone to kick it and then realizing it is there.

It's a desktop. I put a laptop cooling mat under it if it makes any difference
 
If you have a heavy pile carpeting like shag you would have to look at something like a small stand solid not shaky for placing the case on that. Shag sees long strands of carpet there that would tend to leave the case wobbly and if long enough with some types get drawn into a case fan. For a solid wood or tile floor just the dust/dirt factor would be the main concern.
 
i agree with pc eye. its an automatic dust collector. thats ok. the problem is you will need for sure to blow out more than usual. your fan will be clogged often enough and the motherboard will be covered with dust. requires more attention.
 
Are you sure theres no way of getting it onto a desk?

Also if you have no desk space I have seen some brackets that you can use to put computer under the desk, it's hard to explain but yeah.

I recently had to replace a drive in one case where I loaned out a working drive to see it cook in case left never cleaned on the floor. That poor drive must have seen some high temps from the dust found inside including the blanket I pulled off of the board there! :eek:

There are small stands that could see it kept off of the floor It depends on how much space you have for something like that. There are also low cost pc carts with keyboard drawers that see a shelf on the bottom that keeps a case off of the floor. Some will even have a drawer or two for keeping your software disks in plastic cases or paper for a printer stored there.
 
The laptop cooling mat probably wouldn't make a difference, unless the case is on its side and doesn't have any feet.Then it might, just a little.

I keep my PC on the floor and don't really have any problems with dust, and the front is mesh so you can't say because there is no intake fan. I do have some material that acts like a filter though. But I am sure it's no where near as good quality as a proper fan filter.
 
i don't see why not... it should be a problem..

my dad has done it every since he has had a computer in the study.

The cooling mat doesnt fit the computer though. I'm just using it.

My comps been living on the floor for about a year (saves me desk space), I don't think I've got much more dust than if it was placed on a desk.
 
My desktop is on the hard wood floor. I have to vacuum it out every week because of pets and dust. It sucks, I worry that it will start a fire or blow my PC. :(
 
if it's just blowing against the bottom portion of case i don't see how it'll cool down the pc unless you modded the case to be some sort of a heatsink. anybody disagree?
