computer shutdown by itself

recently just upgraded from 7950gt to 8800 gt
my comp spec are
4600x2 amd
2gb
window xp
8800gt

whenever i play a game, in like 10 min, whole computer shut down. Im trying to figure out what the problem..

i had a similar problem with my comp shutting down on its own years ago, and it turned out to be capacitors on the mobo that had popped and eventually the board fried and started to smoke out the back of the case. probably unrelated to your problem, but you may want to check just in case.

Do you get any error messages when it shuts down?

Have you checked your temps?

no error, everything just shut down, when i turn it on again. It doesnt mention any hardware error. And my gpu and cpu is not in critical heat. But i just uninstall the driver and reinstalled with omega driver...seems okay now..

He has a point.

I'd check the temps (PC Wizard, ect.) And turn up your fan RPMs (RivaTuner), and also try posting your PSU specs.

The PSU shouldn't be a problem... try looking at the temperatures.

problem back! im thinking it the power supply because if the gpu was overheating, wouldnt i see artifacts? and the temperature seems fine, i check the temperature right as i power up the computer again. And sometime when i power it up, it turn off again.....

everything is below 50 except for the gpu which is 60 degrees hot while idle
i see most are at 45 degrees.

If it's during... then the temperatures are fine. Overheating shouldn't be the problem.

then im suspecting power supply? My computer was okay till i upgraded from 7950gt 512 oc bfg to bfg 8800gt 512 oc. Must be graphic card sucking up too much power? Oscar, i truely thanks for ur effort/help so far

No problem!

Hmm... I seriously doubt it's the power supply, as the 8800GT 512MB sucks around as much as a 8600. And an 8600 sucks very little. Ceewi1 had a guide about this: http://www.computerforum.com/90110-power-recommendations-video-card.html

Check it out. Also, try putting a big household fan against your computer while the side panel is open. Then try playing again.

ok, what hot for 8800gt? cuz my went up to 87 degrees, but other then that everything okay
