Computer shuts down after 10 - 30 minutes

Hi there!
I was recommended this forum by a friend and from what I've read on here you guys are amazing! I'm hoping you can help me with a problem I'm having.

I'm having a problem with my computer consistently shutting down.
After anywhere between 10 minutes and 30 minutes of usage I get an error message that reads "Generic Host Process for Win32 Services has encountered a problem & needs to close. Then it starts counting down from one minute while I quickly save what I was doing before it shuts down. I've run an assortment of fix-it programs that find stuff but the fixes don't seem to help. When using these scanners I have to use the quickscan choice as my machine shuts down long before a long scan can finish.

Hopefully the computer will stay on long enough for you to run combofix. I see you are running some outdated software that has vulnerabilities, but we will deal with that later. For now....

Download and Run ComboFix
If you already have Combofix, please delete this copy and download it again as it's being updated regularly.
Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

Combofix should never take more that 20 minutes including the reboot if malware is detected.
If it does, open Task Manager then Processes tab (press ctrl, alt and del at the same time) and end any processes of findstr, find, sed or swreg, then combofix should continue.
If that happened we want to know, and also what process you had to end.

In your next reply please post:
  • The ComboFix log
  • A fresh HiJackThis log
  • An update on how your computer is running
 
Wow! My computer hasn't shut down since combofix did it's thing! Also it seems to be running way faster as well. Not constantly accessing the hard drive.

Then click on fix checked at the bottom.

Now time for the clean up procedure.

You are running older versions of Java and AVG. Please go into add/remove programs and remove all instances of AVG and Java, java can be listed as java or j2se runtime. Please uninstall all. Then go here and download the latest versions of each program.

You also need to uninstall anything in add/remove programs that has the name of viewpoint in it, such as viewpoint media player, manager, or service. Viewpoint is on your system and is considered foistware and not malware but is always recommended to uninstall it.

When you are done with all these fixes you may post a fresh hijackthis log.
 
Was away for the weekend but now have deleted old avg and java's and viewpoint. Installed new java and avg. Fixed what you indicated on hijackthis.

Please download JavaRa to your desktop and unzip it to its own folder
  • Run JavaRa.exe, pick the language of your choice and click Select. Then click Remove Older Versions.
  • Accept any prompts.

You still have remnants of the old java installs you have. This will remove all files of older version. Other than that your log is clean.

After running javara please post a fresh hijackthis log.
