Computer shuts off when I run video conversion programs

'm not sure this is theight forum for this question, bu her goes. I am having an ongoing problem with my PC suddenly shutting down for no apparent reason. It usually happens when I am running a video conversion program (e.g., avi to mp4; DVD Shrink). At first I thought it was one of my hard drives overheating, so I had the operating system moved to the IDE drive from one of the SATA drives and upgraded the fans. However, the problem is continuing. Disk Sentinel tells me the disks are all fine, and I replaced my video card just a few months ago. I am running Windows XP Pro on an AMD Dual Core 4200+ with 2 megs of RAM. I have three internal disks and one external disk.
Thanks!!

Yeah, I guess 2 megs wouldn't really cut it, would it? I must have flashed back to my old 256 computer.

I would tend to doubt that it's a corrupt hardware install. I have the same problem with a number of video conversion programs. I suggested to the guy at the local computer shop that it might be an overheating CPU, but he said no. Maybe I should change computer shops ...

I think I've come to the conclusion that it's probably the CPU overheating. One thing I didn't mention: I installed a new CPU (upgraded from a 3400+ to a 4200) but I didn't upgrade the CPU fan. Although did a lot of research before I installed it, I wonder if I (a) did it right, or (b) should have also upgraded the sink fan. I think I will take it in & have them check the installation & replace the sink fan. I may also have them upgrade the PSU ... it certainly won't hurt!
Sound like a good idea??

Many Thanks!!
