My computer is taking on a stange new habit. Shutting off randomly throughout the day, or itll shut off while I am playing Guild Wars (which it used to run beauifully). No error, no dialog box, no blue screen, nothing. Click, black.

I honestly dont think its overheating, right now, after running it for a while than resetting it for BIOS setting, its running at:

Current System Temp: 38 C
CPU Temp: 46 C
CPU Fan: 2115 RPM

I tumbled into a forum where someone said there was a virus which would shut down a computer just like I described, but I wasn't sure if it was true. I mean there are viruses for everything, and my AVG hasnt found squat.

AreaNet (The Guild Wars Company), suggested after running a few programs to check the computer status, that it could be my RAM. I dont know if thats true since Ive had the computer for less than a year. You would hope it would last that long right?

Any ideas? Any help? I would love an opinion which means I dont have to replace my RAM.

You power supply may be taking a crap on you. Try and swap it out, if possible, with a friends or someones that is similar to a 500W

Love your name btw,

Lol thank you for advice, sadly no one around me has a tower I can just swap power sources with. I would have to buy a new one if I wanted to try it out. Maybe if Im lucky I can find one on sale~

I think I focused the non gamng shut off to my AVG Free anti-virus. When it runs its daily scan it shuts off. Now I cant tell where its at when it shuts off since it does it when my back is turned ><

While running Guild Wars, it only allows me to log in, so I can see my charc, and than it just resets the computer. Not shut off, complete restart.

Is that another notch in the, "bad power supply" theory?

i've got a couple of things for you to try. considering random restarts could be a number of things, including spyware, give malwarebytes a try. run a "quick scan" and see if it finds anything.

also, disable automatic restart upon system failure. this should prompt you with a blue screen of death error. write down as much information from the blue screen as you can, including the stop code. to disable automatic system restarts, follow these directions:
* Click Start, then click the right mouse button on My Computer. Select Properties
* Click Advanced System Settings, then click the Advanced tab.
* Under Startup and Recovery, click Settings.
* Under System failure, click the checkbox next to automatically restart to remove the checkmark.
* Click OK to close the Startup and Recovery window, then click OK to close the System Properties window, then close the Properties window.

I appricate the help! I did both, no dice sadly.

The Malware program found nothing, and when I did my AVG Free scan to see if I can get a blue screen/completes magically/find the specific file, it shut off somewhere under... C:/windows/ winsxs. Blah! I yawned while watching the scan and missed any hints to what the file was.

Also, when I ran Guild Wars to see if I can get the error, it reset itself with no blue screen of death. So I guess that means it isnt a system error?

Thoughts?
