Computer slow after restore

So recently my computer crashed due to a power surge so I used seatools on my Hard drive and ordered the recovery disks from HP. I just finished restoring it and reinstalling the operating system, but I got a problem. My computer is unusually slow. Right now I am reinstalling a game from steam and it is downloading at an average of about 300 kb/s. My computer used to download at around 1 mb or above but now it can get as low as 150 kb. Any ideas of what I can do to speed it up. My computer wasn't overclocked and if anything I would think it should be much faster.

Do you have another pc in the house that you can do a speedtest with or not so we can get a comparison? Your speed is kind of low for having cable internet. Have you tried rebooting the modem and router if you have one?

There is one more computer, I will go test it, but it is i think 6-8 years old. BTW my computer is wireless and the other one is hard wired.

Yes it did. If you just did a restore, chances are you don't have the latest drivers for it. What is the exact make and model of HP you have?

I would go here and select what operating system you are running and download their latest drivers.

What wireless adapter do you have? Its also possible the power surge could have damaged it. Do you have any friends that have wireless laptops that you can test your wireless speed? And then test your wireless adapter in their pc to test speed. Could either be bad driver, bad wireless adapter or wireless on the router going bad after the power surge.

Atheros 802.11 a/b/g/n Dualband Wireless Network Module
That is the network card that i got in my computer, i dont think anything is wrong with it and ATM it would be a struggle to get a laptop to test against.

What operating system are you running? 32 or 64 bit?

You don't think anything is wrong with it? How do you know that? How about trying the adapter in the other pc?

i have 64 bit, and i looked and saw that under device manager it says that it is working. and its a card installed in my computer so it sounds like a pain in the butt to put it in the other pc.
