Computer slow after system restore

I may have got a virus as my computer crashed and i was left with nothing on my computer so i did a system restore and I was able to retrieve all my programs and data. However now the computer runs really slow as i have tried a microsoft essentials scan and defrag but it still runs slow. When i watch youtube the video will start then the advertisement comes up after and sometimes there is no sound. When it takes time load i can now hear the computer make a faint humming sound which it never did before.
I am running windows 7 with intel i7 if this helps.

Back up all your data and programs and just do a complete reformat + reinstall of Windows 7 if you have the original installation discs and a product key.

Yes...when i restarted it I only had a few programs then when i did the system restore i got some of them back but i am missing all my pictures and music. When i do a google search it takes a long time and i can hear my comp making a slight humming sound like something isnt loading properly. Is there anything i can try before i have to reformat it as I dont have some of those pictures saved to an external drive

It sounds like to me that you have some maleware on your system. John will be able to help you remove it.

If you have ran any temp file cleaner, its too late to recover anything. If you haven't, please do the following.

Download and run the following file.

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/unhide/dl/6/

This will unhide all your missing desktop icons and start menu programs.

Then do the following.

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from here or here and save it to your desktop.

• Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
• At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to
  • Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
• then click Finish.
• If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version. Please keep updating until it says you have the latest version.
• Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
• When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
• Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
• A log will be saved automatically which you can access by clicking on the Logs tab within Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

If for some reason Malwarebytes will not install or run please download and run Rkill.scr, Rkill.exe, or Rkill.com but DO NOT reboot the system and then try installing or running Malwarebytes. If Rkill (which is a black box) appears and then disappears right away or you get a message saying rkill is infected, keep trying to run rkill until it over powers the infection and temporarily kills it. Once a log appears on the screen, you can try running malwarebytes or downloading other programs.



Download the HijackThis installer from here.
Run the installer and choose Install, indicating that you accept the licence agreement. The installer will place a shortcut on your desktop and launch HijackThis.

Vista and Windows 7 users must right click on the hijackthis icon and click on run as. If the run as option doesn't appear then press and hold the shift key while right clicking on the icon to get it to appear.



Click Do a system scan and save a logfile

Most of what HijackThis lists will be harmless or even essential, don't fix anything yet.

Post the logfile that HijackThis produces along with the Malwarebytes Anti-Malware log

I would like to see the results of the following though.

1.

Please download and run TDSSkiller

When the program opens, click on the start scan button.

TDSSKiller will now scan your computer for the TDSS infection. When the scan has finished it will display a result screen stating whether or not the infection was found on your computer. If it was found it will display a screen similar to the one below.

To remove the infection simply click on the Continue button and TDSSKiller will attempt to clean the infection.

When it has finished cleaning the infection you will see a report stating whether or not it was successful as shown below.

If the log says will be cured after reboot, please reboot the system by pressing the reboot now button.

After running there will be a log that will be located at the root of your c:\ drive labeled tdsskiller with a series of numbers after it. Please open the log and copy and paste it back here.

2.

Please download and run the ESET Online Scanner
Disable any antivirus/security programs.
IMPORTANT! UN-check Remove found threats
Accept any security warnings from your browser.
Check Scan archives
Click Start
ESET will then download updates, install and then start scanning your system.
When the scan is done, push list of found threats
Click on Export to text file , and save the file to your desktop using a file name, such as ESETlog. Include the contents of this report in your next reply.
If no threats are found then it won't produce a log.

Sorry i forgot that when i did the eset scan the computer was periodically making that humming sound which it was doing also when i did google searches. I dont know if its the fan but i dont remember hearing that before my computer crashed

I have also noticed some other programs that arent functioning correctly...when i plug my ipod into the dock itunes doesnt notice it and now Itunes wont even run when i try to load it up again. On some youtube videos there is no sound and no volume slidebar and sometimes when a video starts it will play and then the advertisement will start half way through the video

When I do google searches it is still very slow as when i type in the search and push enter there is a pause where nothing happens and then i hear the computer make that light humming noise.

i don't see any other issues. Can you pinpoint where the humming is coming from? Take the cover off the side of the case and determine where its coming from.

Its hard to pinpoint where that slight whining noise is coming from as I think it might be the fan. Everytime i load a youtube video or google search you could hear it. This computer never this slow before that malware attack. I dont know if this helps but when when my comp got infected all the programs disappeared and i guess it was a fake microsoft window that popped up stating it wanted $74.95 for a data recovery. So is there nothing else to try that will speed up my computer...what to do now

I think at this point, you should try a fresh install of windows and see if its back to normal. We've already ran the major tools and not coming up with much. Unfortunately with some malware infections, the only option is to format and reinstall windows. I wished I could be of better help to you.

I reinstalled windows and my computer seems to be working fine but I wanted your advice on what I should use for an anti virus. I currently am running microsoft essentials.
