Computer Society for Students

I know that the simulation works no matter what happens at the end. I didn't have enough time for the program to check the IP addresses at the end.

If you want to do a overhaul of the program, permission has been provided. (Check your email). I can also provide you the logos used in the program..

Domain is back up now.

Now, does anyone want to volenteer a little time to help gather up the images I'll need for the control panel?

I was thinking about some sort of nomenclature like follows... in 800x600

"CP" (Control Panel)
"CP-1" (Control Panel with first icon...Accessibility Options... opened)
"CP-1-RC" (Control Panel with first icon right clicked)
"CP-1-S" (Control Panel with first icon single clicked... or "selected")

I'm considering going a step farther and taking out the images for the "programs" inside the control panel, and actually creating forms that mimic the real ones. Too many images seems like a BAD idea.

I think I'm going to use a single picture box for the Control Panel, and then each icon will have a picture box over it that can change for the different icon states.

I'll be away this weekend, so I'll take my laptop with me (limited internet access) and work on this a lot. Maybe by Monday, I'll have a fully working version that I can email to techdude2007

EDIT: I take that back... I don't need any volunteer help for image gathering... I've looked over my plan, and I completely changed my idea for images.

That would be greatly appreciated. My version will be a basic framework that the user installs, and then they open the Virtual Labs using it. That will bring the size for each virtual lab WAY down (just a few kilobytes), which should help keep site traffic down if it does end up getting crowded, will take up way less storage space in the long run, and should also be easier to use and have a more consistent look.

If you want to just stick to the way you had it, an individual exe for each VL, that's fine, just let me know.

I'm leaving home right now, I'll post my progress every so often over the weekend and will upload a prototype on Sunday night.

I'll be doing some articles mainly to do with the basics of Linux, installing, dual-booting, maintaining. Hopefully my Dell will fully work by that point.

awesome, cheers GCR
im already a member of the IET (student membership), they have great newsletters/magazines that get delivered to me.
i recommend people interested in engineering and technology have a look into them.

I know that the hosting is not always very reliable....anyone else having problems with the domain? Maybe I should switch hosters?

What host do you use? I suggest switching. Godaddy is fairly reliable. I know of another forum that I am a regular on, and have been for about 3 months... it is hosted with godaddy, and it has only been down once (last night for about 1 hour) for and server errors.

Need logos? I can design them but, you can put the functionality on them....

my dads been with IET for a long time too. He joined the IIE instead of the IEE though.
i joined the IEE about 2 years ago. only recently did IEE and IIE join to make IET.

Could someone explain this computer society thing do me? I dont really understand it. Its like a group or something?

It is a society for students who are interested in computers. the zenith computer society offers membership to students only. once you are a member you have access to the forums, virtual labs (to teach you new things about computers), and local chapters (groups of local students who share an interest in computers. there are other things that will be offered in the future. the society is still new; maybe you would be interested in volunteering to help it take off? either way, if you are interested in computers you should apply for membership, there will be many resources for you to take advantage of.

That would be great. I'm getting the logos from techdude, but maybe some sort of "font" only in a word art looking way. The Vitual Labs logo doesn't exactly look very original, so perhaps a VL logo + Icon?

Some of the fonts and things on http://cooltext.com/ look pretty neat, if they can be cut down to a bunch of managable pieces, like "A" "a" "B" "b" "C" "c"... all the same height, but their widths cut down to the sides of the letter... transparent if possible.

If that sounds like way to much, then do whatever you can. I'm having issues with VB EE 2005 right now, so I probably won't have a prototype by Sunday night. :(
