you can join the national society, and if you want you can start a chapert in your area, then people can join your chapter. otherwise, you can still join the nation society and have access to all the resources.

The National Chapter allows for members in the United States to belong to a central chapter until a local chapter opens up in their school, university or community.

The International Chapter does the same thing, except for International members.

To answer your question, you can join the National Chapter or International Chapter or....join a chapter near you. You are not required to attend the meetings or anything. The point of a chapter is part of the society structure, to provide a means for communication, meetings, local society goverment, activities and hands on learning.

If you join a chapter, the Manager of the chapter will be contacted and told of your membership.
