Computer sometimes boots sometimes not...

hey everyone,

my friend just built a computer.... he is having a bit of an issue with his mobo (we assume)

When he turns on his computer sometimes it will do a full boot, sometimes nothing happens. The powersupply fans will rev up high then low; all the fans will run, but the motherboard does not respond. His mobo firmware is updated. anyways, we are looking for any suggestions.

btw it is an asus Crosshair IV Formula with a amd 1100t 16gb ram ocz ssd + 500gb storage

new symptom... if windows loads, he will run a game and it just reboots. no bsod

Could be a failing PSU. I know on my old rig my OS wouldn't boot with more than one HDD receiving power.

Another possibility could be RAM, so I'd run Memtest +86 on the system.
